The Constitution is the most important document to be written in the history of the United States government. Even today the Constitution is vital to the way that the government functions. However before the Constitution was written in 1787, the people in the United States lived very differently. From the time that the United States was first founded and Settled it was run by the British government. As America continued to grow and prosper, the people began to rebel against the British rule. Once America gained its independence and the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, they needed to find a way to govern themselves. The first attempt at a government was the Articles of Confederation, but they turned out to be unsuccessful, so the Constitution Convention meet to write The Constitution of the United States of America. In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, and discovered the Americas, leading to France, and Europe to come to the New World. In 1532 the French discovered and made a claim to Canada, and when elected in 1558 Queen Elizabeth lead the English to make expeditions to America. There were many reasons why people began to come to America, some came due to religious persecution, some because they believed they could find riches and live a better life, and some were criminals who were sent over for punishment.
