Violence of honor killings is a custom in which both men and women are killed if they are suspected of having relations outside of a marriage. These killings are usually done by a male member of the family. The killings are usually done in order to fix the reputation of the family. Based on the custom, a person who gets involve in a relationship outside of a marriage is bringing disgrace on the family. These honor killings do not allow people the freedom of choosing who they want to marry. Instead, they are being placed into arrange marriages. Honor killings are very prevalent in the country of Pakistan. Additionally, Pakistanis do not believe in going against honor killings regardless of its vile actions. These situations are particularly important because of the embarrassment brought on by the acts, and causing victims to be afraid of speaking out and instead internalizing their pain and suffering. Many women have learned how to domesticate in a household where cooking, cleaning, and sexually pleasing the male is the norm. In addition, along the way, these activities become expectations of the male, and if the women produce anything less, it can lead to violence from their male counterparts. Overtime these actions are seen as ‘normal’ family behaviors, and are being passed down to the children and creating a cycle of domestic violence. Females in these situations may not report these issues due to fear. Consequently, they remain in these situations and allowing their male counter parts to control and abuse them as they please. Reality television has become very common and a viewer’s favorite, even though it produces many women competing and fighting against each other. Political leaders who devalues women verbally and emotionally has also been the center of the violence against women. To make matters worse, many do not think that this is an issues and is supports these leaders and propelling them to continue victimizing women. Today’s pop culture has also contributed to the violence against women, and especially influencing the youths. The music that is been played in today’s society are so catchy that it causes listeners to be swallowed up by its rhythm rather than looking deeper into the meaning behind its lyrics. Unfortunately, if listeners do realize what is being said, typically they would think that these things are cool and allowing these celebrities to start a negative trend. Other social mediums such as Facebook, Instagram, snapchat, and YouTube have also been an influence in the promotion of violence against women. Participants tent to upload videos showing videos and pictures that devalues women in more ways than one, without realizing the impact that it can cause on women from all walks of life.
