With the number of people attending college rising every year a topic of concern, which is most commonly found in the college environment is the addiction to sex. One can generally be misguided on sex due to the pleasure that it comes with but the abuse of such a practice can have a negative impact on one’s life. It’s important to understand what is exactly involved in such an addiction and how it develops. While psychologists have struggled to arrive at a precise definition for sex addiction, it’s largely believed to include an inability to control or manage one’s sexual behavior. There are many ways to treat sex addiction such as various types of therapies and medication but however there are no known cures. Sex addiction is on the rise and there should be more awareness to what it actually is. Sex addiction is the uncontrollable urge to behave sexually even though negative consequences may occur as a result of that behavior. Some of these signs consist of a person having multiple sexual partners, participating in cybersex, constant practice of unsafe sex, frequent one night stands, the use of prostitutes and the inability to resist impulses engaging in extreme sexual acts. From recent studies, addicts sometimes have the feeling of shame and guilt after pursuing such sexual acts. An individual whom is suffering from sex addiction might also have made multiple attempts to control their behavior without success.
