Since a majority of officers were not held accountable for reasons stemming from both difficulty of communication and racial discrimination, a permanent mark has been ingrained into society; our society technically condoned police brutality in some cases. Numerous unlawful encounters flew under the radar because the pervasiveness was highly limited. Today, however, communication is no longer an issue. It is rather the racism rooted in our country ever since the rise of slavery in the 17th century. Racism led to the subordination and oppression of colored people. Over time, this has caused the colored people to be seen as unequal, and in many cases worse than the rest of the population.
