Major lies told in the past by Christopher Columbus, the women of Salem witch trials, and Princess Anastasia show lies to either make themselves look better or get out of there sticky situation. In history Christopher Columbus was falsely recognized for an important discovery. It all began when Columbus sent sail and was thought to have discovered the world was round. However not all know about this lie for the fact we were all told that it was the truth. Historians now know that Columbus did not discover the earth was round. “He didn’t really discover America either. And telescopes weren’t around until about a century after Columbus died.” (David M. Perry) When in grade school history teachers told everyone that Columbus had this great discovery, but in all actuality there is no way he did for the fact that there was a lack in technology. Looking back on to where this all began in the spring of 1692 where this long tale of lie had all start and didn’t come to an end until the year 1711. “In January 1692, 9-year-old Elizabeth (Betty) Parris and 11-year-old Abigail Williams… began having fits, including violent contortions and uncontrollable outburst of screaming.” This is what they claimed to be some of the signs of witchery. Although today we don’t all believe it to all that out of the ordinary for teenage girls acting like a loon. These girls are from Massachusetts where women were accused of witchcraft. Hysteria continued to spread through Massachusetts about the women of Salem and the witch craft they had been preforming. Women many believed to be friends accused several one right after another. If one women where to be accused of being a witch, then that women can say another women was a witch. That would continue on and on until 1711. It’s the domino effect that never stopped falling, and when one fell they would die. The women were sentenced to death they would either drowned them or, hang them from a noose. Although there was no specific proof that women were witch, but when once accused they assumed it was true and off they go.
