There is cheating going on in every school, from elementary all the way up to highschool or college, but every student is academically dishonest. Student ethics are changing dramatically with the development of technology in the digital age. Schools have a policy to determine consequences for any individual involved in cheating, the teachers' are the ones who have the decision to report the cheating or determine a consequence theirself. Students have many methods and resources available for them to cheat which causes teachers to discover new ways of how to prevent it in the classrooms. If a student is caught cheating, the reaction is deny the wrongdoing of academic dishonesty. “Some might assume that teens who cheat are characterized by marginal abilities causing them to resort to dishonesty as the only way to keep pace with more intelligent classmates” (P. and R. Strom Cheating in Middle School and High School). Every student has different strength and weaknesses with learning and if a student is not as quick of a learner as others, then they might consider the easy way out and cheat to pass the class. Many students want to pass and memorize answers rather than taking in the material and truly learn the concepts. Students can develop many different habits “Students being directed in unhealthy directions, picking up unconstructive habits, and also being seriously penalized are some of the effects of cheating on test” (unknown). Once a student cheats on a test and a teacher or professor has determined their consequence it can change the students behavior. When a student is constantly looking down and even for long periods of time it is quite obvious of the student is doing. The world is now revolving around technology and it is advancing every single day which also means that there are new methods students are able to use to cheat. It can be quite obvious when a student cheats and if a teacher notices they may talk to the student about it. ‘If a student's eyes start to wander..mentors tells students to keep their eyes on their own paper” (Eisenberg Keeping an Eye on Online Test-Takers). A student will typically try and keep track where the teacher is if they are intending to cheat, which is an indication to the teacher to keep an eye on that student. Students also cheat on homework, projects, essays, and many more assignments and without a teacher watching the student, it makes it easy for the student to go online and look up the answers.
