Choose Life
“I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” – Ronald Reagan (www.lifenews.com). From the moment of creation, life is one of the most beautiful miracles in the world; however, many times parents decide to have an abortion. Abortion has been debated for years because while some people think that every unborn child has the right to live, some people think is the mother’s right to decide what she wants to do with her body and her life. While some women consider abortion as an escape from responsibility, here are a few reasons why they should think twice before making such a decision: it is immoral, it can affect women’s health, and it …show more content…
Studies have demonstrated that having an abortion impacts the mental health of a woman. These women have a higher rate of hospitalization for psychiatric problems than control group (Ostbye et al.,2001). The most frequent health issues that can occur are depression, anxiety and substance abuse. (www.deveber.org). On the other hand, an abortion can affect the physical health of a mother. Studies have proven that abortion lowers women’s fertility by 6% compared to those who never had an abortion (Frank et al.,1993). Also, many women in the first 12 months after an abortion encountered a higher suicide rate comparing with women who delivered babies (Gissler et al.,1996). Such a decision can affect a marriage, especially when two parents involved do not share the same beliefs. Many times an abortion creates a distance between spouses, and sometimes that can lead to a divorce. It is true that sometimes a pregnancy can result from unwanted circumstances like rape; however, harming an innocent child is not a solution for such a tragedy. Therefore, the rape victims should reach out for help and support from their friends, immediate relatives, partners or counselling, rather than making …show more content…
A high rate of abortion occurs in younger women and, according to Jones RK, Finer LB and Singh S as found in “Characteristics of U.S. Abortion Patients” 18% of abortions in United States are made by teenagers (www.choicespregnancy.org). That is why starting sexual education at early ages can save these unborn children, and it protects the mothers from the trauma that comes with it. The teenagers should be informed by their parents about the implication of an active sexual life, and they should be advised that abstinence it is the best contraception methods. Also, they should be informed about the alternative contraception method that can be found on the market. Parents should have close relationships with their teenage daughters and offer them all the support when an unwanted pregnancy occurred. Even if the young girls are immature, and as a desperate act they consider abortion as an option, parents should guide them and offer their help unconditionally. They should be advised to keep the pregnancy, although they might need to give it up for adoption after the baby is born, and this way their conscience will be clean and certainly the long term impact on their lives will be diminished. In the United States, one in eight couples cannot conceive naturally, and probably many of them will be more than happy to adopt a new born child. It is very
