Environmental Effects Of Amphibians

Ever since humans have started polluting causing the ozone layer to become thinner, allowing more UV rays from the sun to come. This correlates directly into stronger UV rays entering earth's atmosphere and harming living things all over. Some creatures that are the most susceptible to these UV rays are amphibians. There are three kinds of UV rays, UV-A, UV-B, UV-C. The kind that hurts the amphibians the most is UV-B because Most molecules do not absorb the higher UV-A wavelengths and most of the UV-C radiation is absorbed by stratospheric ozone. The UV-B destroys part of the DNA and this causes death and other mutations to happen. As you can see in figure 1, the UV-B photon comes in and destroys parts of the DNA creating pyrimidine dimers, which are areas of damage on a molecular level. This in itself will affect the food chain and this will change a the pond ecosystem. The influx in amphibians means that there will be less food for the other creatures in the food chain. This won’t have a major impact on the environment but it will certainly affect it. Other than that it has no negative effects on the environment. Also it will take electricity to run the enclosures and maintain them this has the potential to endanger the environment if we don’t use efficient electrical products, such as light bulbs, heaters, coolers, and other thing to help make the enclosure seem as close to nature as possible. The fossil fuels needed to burn and create electricity damages the environment. So this solution has potentially dangerous side effects to the environment those can be avoided or even played down as to cause less damage. The other thing is that building these enclosures mean that there might be disturbances to the environment, such as cutting down trees, or polluting the water and or air from the
