In the article "Birth Defects", MedlinePlus states that most of birth defects happen in the first three months of pregnant when a baby is developing in the mother 's womb. Also, it is a physical or biochemical abnormality present at birth, but about half of all birth defects are difficult to find out the exact causes. However, if causes are known, then they can be the followings: women 's age, infection in pregnancy, and drug addiction cause a baby 's birth defect. The first cause a baby 's birth defect is women 's age. Woman who becoming pregnant after the age 32 and above has higher risk of having a birth defected baby. The reason why pregnant women have higher risk of getting infections is, pregnancy affects every system in their body, especially their immune system because they have to protect both the mother and the baby. In order to protect both of them, different parts of the immune systems should do double work. So this makes pregnant women 's body work twice, but weaken in the system, according to the article "Infection in Pregnancy", by the author Kristeen Cherney. Among the all the infections which can affect a pregnancy, Zika virus is uprising virus which dangerously affect a baby with a birth defect. There are certain mosquitoes carrying the virus, flying around place to place and transmitting it to people. When it gets to pregnant women, the virus increases the risk of the baby 's brain defect called microcephaly. According to the article "Zika in Pregnancy", BabyCenter states that microcephaly makes the brain does not develop properly, sometimes leading to problems such as seizures and delayed development. Some babies infected with Zika before birth have also been found to have missing brain structures, vision and hearing defects, or poor growth. Pregnant women who are in drug addiction seriously harming their baby. Especially with street drugs such as Cocaine, Ecstasy, methamphetamine and other club drugs, Heroin, Marijuana, Prescription drugs that are abused, making their baby to have a birth defect. According to the article "Street drugs and Pregnancy", March of Dimes states that about1 in 20 women take street drugs, which are illegal or illicit drugs, during pregnancy. Women who use the drugs before and during pregnancy highly increase chances of having a miscarriage or stillbirth the baby. Also, babies from the drug user mother have higher chance of body defect. For example, changing in shape or functioning one or more parts of the body (March of Dimes). Moreover, babies from a mother who often uses drug will have risky problems later such as, learning and behavior disabilities, slower in growth, or sudden infant dead syndrome (March of Dimes). The reason how babies end with body defect from drug user mother is, according to the article "Addiction During Pregnancy", the author Cdorsey says, "the drug components can be transmitted to the baby’s blood while in the mother’s womb, and the baby may suffer from different types of abnormalities and defects."
