The informative speech that I select was presented by mathematician Hannah Fry. Her speech was dedicated to exploring how complex social behavior can be analyzed and perhaps predict the site of an upprising or riot. The second TED presentation that I selected was delivered by Van Jones who is the founder of the Ella Baker Center for human rights and of Green for All, in Oakland, California. Their mission is to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty. Both speeches were engaging and provided phenomenal insight regarding their topics. After reviewing each video it was obvious that “informative and persuasive speaking differ in an important way.”(Coopman, 286) Therefore, I was immediately able to determine the purpose of each speech after just a few sentence’s. The main focus of his persuasive speech is questions of policy. This concept “may reflect current controversies, such as U.S. immigration, policies, or less contentious topics.” (Coopman, p. 294) He boldly advocated for changing the way that plastics are recycled. He shared evidence about the dangers that current recycling techniques have on people and the planet. His plan proposed changes in policy and regulations regarding this topic. He suggested that new safer method should be considered to prevent further damage. “Van Jones informed the audience that if” We trash the planet we trash the people and if we trash people we trash the planet.” So, he encouraged them to respect all species and the wisdom and worth of all people, because it can make the world better

Anthony Holmes woke up on April 20, 1999 around 3:00 pm in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time, he was employed by the Air Force, working night shifts that lasted from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. If the Newseum is torn down, the first amendment will not have a place to be celebrated just for itself, so there will be no place to celebrate the first American Constitutional freedom. President Trump is pressuring Congress into passing a bill that will start a project to make room for new monuments. The project will consist of tearing down monuments that the government feels are unnecessary. The project will ruin DC and the American spirit. If the bill does pass, the Newseum should definitely not be torn down since it is a reminder of what America is, it will have horrible economic effects on the country, and tearing it down will diminish the American spirit.…

Bill Clinton If I were to talk to Bill Clinton I would ask him what his thoughts are now, in retrospect, on lying to the American people about his relationship with the young aid Monica Lewinski, what advice he could give to President Donald Trump, and what his thoughts are on his wife losing the election. I think these are all really raw and juicy topics to talk to Bill about especially at a time when the nation is in such mental despair. The long term effects look quite different from those of the Watergate, the scandal crisis of 25 years ago which enhanced the reputation of the press and shifted the power balance between Congress and the president. What president Clinton did was inexcusable and lowered the expectations that American people had of their president and Congress.…

In his speech, Admiral William McRaven gives many life lessons to the 2014 graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin. The admiral began his speech with a simple fact: The average American meets ten thousand people in their lifetime. If you change the life of just ten of those ten thousand, and they change the life of just ten of their ten thousand, in a century, 800 million people’s lives will have been changed. This is amazing to me because everyone can change someone’s life everyday by doing one simple thing, whether it be smile at them or buy them their meal.…

An informative speech is a speech where you are educating an audience on a topic that they may not know much about, while a persuasive speech uses a bias opinion to persuade the audience to change their opinion about a topic. A persuasive speech may also be informative because of the information it contains, but an informative speech will never be persuasive. The reason behind this is in order to persuade the audience to take your side in a matter they may also need to be informed more about the topic before making their decision, making this a persuasive speech. An informative speech will never contain persuasive information (Brewer, G., 2001).…
