A hero
“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” (Matthew 16:26 NIV)
Every story has a main character. The troubles the main character goes through constitute the plot of the story. He, the hero, will eventually solve the conflict the story centers upon. The main character of many of Jesus’ teachings is the human soul.
The existence of the immortal soul is debatable. However, something surely must exist inside of each of us, at least as a temporarily entity. On the one hand, we should be glad that we are here. No more than a hundred years ago, those of us alive today were in a strange place of non-existence. We were nothing and we had nothing. Then something incomprehensible happened. We had the miraculous chance to break out of the place of nothingness and enter into the world. Miracles do not stop there. Before entering, everyone got tremendous inheritance: an intellect!
On the other hand, these inherited intellectual abilities allow us to conduct a rational examination of human conditions. Even a brief inspection reveals that in less than a century most of us who are alive today will be gone. It creates an intricate situation. One carries the tremendous gift of intelligence on his shoulders; however, the road he walks seemingly leads to the dead end.
Human life is the dramatic conflict between one’s mortal physical nature and his divine ability to produce fine thoughts. The capacity for abstract thinking makes one fully aware of the conflicting circumstances of his life. …show more content…
Two thousand years have passed since Jesus walked the land of Palestine, but his teaching keeps attracting the attention of millions of people in all regions of earth, regardless of their age, level of education and income. The cultural traditions, scientific and philosophical views, economic and political systems, living and working standards have changed dramatically over this time and still, Jesus’ message does not lose its influence. It is a phenomenal intellectual achievement. However, Jesus’ worldwide influence on religion and culture does not prove that his claims are true.
Most scientific theories look into principles that governs physical matter and for this reason, they do not directly challenge Jesus’ teaching. The fact that interactions between physical objects are firmly regulated by mathematical laws does not deny God’s existence. Quite the opposite, the fact that irrational physical matter is regulated by rational laws, many of which are expressed by elegant mathematical formulas, could be seen as the evidence of
