Dr. Sabri Research Paper

When we asked Dr. Sabri about the supposed conflict between the Sunnis and Shi’ites, his response was relatively neutral. He explained to us that there are no significant differences between the Sunnis and Shi’ites — they are all Muslims. And as long as all Muslims believed in the statement of the Shahada, “There is no god but God and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah,” then no other difference could be significant enough to set them apart so as to make them conflict with one another. The only difference, he mentioned, was that Sunnis believed Abu Bakr to be Muhammad’s rightful successor, rather than Ali. This slight difference makes no difference, according to Dr. Sabri. Therefore, he denies looking down upon Shi’ites as lesser Muslims in any way, shape, or form. Of course, when asked about his least favorable aspects of Islam, Dr. Sabri said there was absolutely nothing he disliked about Islam. He loves his religion as a whole. Sabri claims to have never questioned his faith at any point in his lifetime. In fact, he says he took a class during college that was very similar to our World Religions course at Xavier. So, he also had the opportunity to pay visits to a different places of worship. In doing so, Dr. Sabri emphasizes that he was brought much closer to his Islamic lifestyle and beliefs. Seeing the way other religions functioned was a great experience for him, but he made it clear: he would not trade what the Islamic faith has furnished him with or his relationship with Allah for anything in the world. His commitment to the Umma and his faith were very apparent so far, through the look on his face as he explained his outlook and the way he confidently opened up to the questions we were asking
