Phil Vassar At The Millersport Sweet Corn Festival

The concert I went to see was Phil Vassar at the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival. It took place at 8pm in Millersport, Ohio on September 4, 2015. I never seen Phil before, and I’ve heard many positive things about him before attending. I heard that he has written various songs for many other famous artists. Two artists in particular include Tim McGraw and Jo Dee Messina during the 1990s. I also heard that Phil likes to interact with the crowd during his shows to make them more interesting. As the sky began to darken, I could tell the show would begin soon.
Around 7:30 pm, music began to play through the loud speakers. The song sounded like Texas Blues. Texas blues is a subgenre of blues. The guitar played heavily throughout the song, and the song had guitar solos and ‘licks’ or small riffs. This is very common in Texas blues. This reminded of Stevie Ray Vaughn, a well-known Texas blues musician. The song also had the 12 bar blues feel to it which made me notice that it was a blues song. The male singer had roughness in his voice as he discussed Texas life in his song. After the song ended, I looked around to see what the kind of crowd was attending the concert.

This song was a little slower, focusing more on the piano and vocals. The song had a good 2/4 time feel common in rock music. The audience sang along with Phil since this song is a number 1 hit he made. It sounded more like a rock ballad but with a little faster tempo. I sang along with the crowd, and saw many members dancing. Some younger preteen members of the audience were called up on stage to join Phil. I thought that gave more life to the concert allowing the audience to get the feeling of being on stage. Phil played an encore for the audience called Piano Man. Phil was paying tribute to rocker Billy Joel. Phil stated that Billy was an inspiration to him, and was one of many artists who inspired him to pursue a career in
