This hindered our ability to serve additional youth in Camden. However there is a waiting list of parents who desire their children to participate. The organization went to each home in the community and hung bags with informational literature. This information included our website where they could receive additional information. There was increased traffic on the site during this time. In addition, we have a relationship with CBS News 3. They desire to do a follow-up story on the organization once we move into our facility. If I have not challenged myself to practice and to confront challenges, I could not have become the principal player in our school’s jazz band and wind ensemble. After several breakthroughs, I decided to share my inspirations to the younger generation. This year, I am one of the coordinators of the Molding Musicians program supported by the Cypress Boys and Girls Club, teaching the fifth and sixth graders how to play an instrument. I appreciate the fact that my achievements did not come from an easy work, but rather a persistent standing against…

To begin, Casa de Amparo is an amazing care system that truly cares about the wellbeing of the children and preventing teen parents from falling into a vicious violent cycle. As I entered Casa de Amparo, I was welcomed by a smile from an assistant and transferred to a conference room where I met with other students and Jane McGuire. For weeks, I had been wanting to tour the site and volunteer as three youth from the site visited my class to learn about college life. The youth were all high school students with impoverish upbringings who had been transferred to Casa de Amparo from the foster care system. Additionally, the students had been invited by Dr. Juan Santos to tour the campus and question students on the resources available on campus, the environment, and what it was like to try to obtain a higher education.…

Sticky, muddy slime covered my hands and face, but I did not mind. Powdery sawdust peppered my forearms in a shambolic adornment. Nothing, not even the blazing Texas sun or the biting mosquitoes, could divert my attention from the roaring power saw in my hands... As I’ve learned through six years of leadership experience in Scouting, “getting my hands dirty” isn’t always a metaphor. Although I knew that designing and engineering an irrigation system for my church’s community garden would be no simple task, I was determined to make it my Eagle Scout project.…

Journal 2 This week I was able to do a small site visit when I turned in my paperwork. Unfortunately, I was not able to see where they kept the children because my background check and other important information had not yet been processed, but I was still able to get a good idea of what volunteering at the St. Louis Crisis Nursery will be like. When I first pulled up, I was very surprised at the building the nursery was in. I was expecting a fun environment which would be filled with toys scattered around in the grass and playground equipment. However, the building was old and the neighborhood was not in a better part of town which surprised me.…

As the senior project comes to an end, I am truly excited about the benefit my influence has had on the community. My senior project was just another step to the legacy that I have implemented in Warren County. Thinking back to freshman year, senior project seemed so boring and far away. I never would have imagined the progress and success I've had with my senior project. My interest has stayed the same but I wouldn't think that I would have County Commissioners and a House of Representative present at my event.…

Overall the project went well. I enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to complete this assignment. The process of interviewing people helped me to better understand friends I thought I already knew and to connect with them further. The process also allowed me to view what students can learn from a youth group but also how youth group teachings can lack. For example, in some situations, students may not be diving deep enough into the word to get a grasp of why values like cheating and lying can be unethical.…

Last year I led a “Change the World” project in my English class. My grandmother had recently died of Alzheimer’s, so I wanted to learn more about the disease and how I could help. I assembled a small team of girls who cared and knew someone who had been affected by Alzheimer’s. We read about research being done and remedies being developed, and discovered a small, non-profit, called Music and Memory. The movie Alive Inside showed how they use music to touch and “awaken” seniors suffering from dementia.…

Todays society is surrounded by music in many different facets. The exposure comes from the growth and dependence on technology, which allows the movement of noise to any location. People take music with them in the car, to the gym, over the speaker systems of most public venues, and even in the shower. This knowledge and understanding of music is a skill that needs to be enriched in the children of today. Music opens doors and opportunities for students that don’t want to be apart of the football team or didn’t make the cheer squad.…
