Author Joseph DeVito writes about communication and relationships and how you can improve these aspects of your life. I decided to write about family communication because family has always been a big part of my life. I value any information that can assist in maintaining a healthy relationship and communication with my family. I was surprised when I found out there were names for the things that I do. Throughout the book I was able to truly understand and relate to the concepts. I was able to apply these concepts to my life. Joseph DeVito defines the balanced split pattern as an equality relationship is maintained, but each person has authority over different domains (DeVito 268). My parents are the kind of people to care about what me and brother think before making a change to the house. Also, the tasks in my house are all divided equally. My mom and dad split the bills in half, both put in work for the house. I believe it is fair for everyone at the house if the balanced split pattern is followed correctly. When I get married I am going to follow the balanced split pattern because I’ve seen how it has worked all these years for my family and myself. What I like about the balanced split pattern is that everyone is treated equally, there is no expert. One person does not solely dominate everyone in the house.
