The speaker talks about not knowing those that he fights and that he does not hate them or that the ones he protects he holds no love for. This shows that this war that he is fighting is about other people and that he believes that the war has nothing to do with him or anyone in the place that he lives is affected by the war in which he fights. The speaker also states that the only reason why he fights is because of “A lonely impulse of delight,” this shows that he fights only because he enjoys the feeling of flying through the sky and being up above the clouds (Yeats).
