The four sub schools, Social Learning Theory, Social Control Theory, and Dramaturgy can be used to understand a criminals behavior. In 1983 film, The Outsiders, examples of all four sub schools can be interpreted. The Outsiders is a movie about a group of teen boys who consider themselves to be "Greasers" the boys misbehave, have knife fights, and commit crimes. Out of all the boys, Dallas Winston, is the boldest.…
Imagine not being able to walk on the streets alone without having the feeling your going to get jumped. This book is called the outsiders and this is a young adult fiction. There is a gang called the greasers and they are like family to each other, there is seven people in there gang, Ponyboy Curtis, Soda-pop, Darrel, Dallas, Johnny, Two-bit, and Steve. There is also and gang called the socs and they have a rivalry with the greasers. I have three main points that I feel was important in this book, the first point is the messages they send during the book like what statements and learning what not to do.…
For my film analysis, I chose to analyze the movie “The Outsiders” directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on the novel “The Outsiders” by S. E. Hinton. In this movie, a gang of outcasts from the north side of town called the Greasers are always fighting against a rival group called the Socials, who are the rich jocks from the south side of town. The story follows two young Greasers, Johnny and Ponyboy, who aren’t like the others. These two see that fighting is pointless, but it’s just the way they live their life. The two boys get into a fight with some Socials and end up killing one.…
A community is a social group that is composed for people who have things in common, for example, hobbies or interests. Also, some communities have some types of rules to improve their communication and prevent problems between the members. These rules are commonly known as obligations or commitments with the community. Every person in a community has a role that is necessary for any community. An excellent example of one community is Los Alamitos football team.…
Define friendship? Friendship is either a group of friends or just two people who have a great understanding/ mutual trust for each other. Now, what is so important about friendship not just in everyday life but more specifically in The Outsiders? Friendship is important in everyday living because of the fact that you shouldn’t always keep all your emotions bottled up and condensed. If you have good friendships with people you trust it makes everything a lot easier and less frustrating / negative.…
A motto is a motivational principle that drives one to achieve their own goal. It basically consists of short words that give a gigantic meaning to the person. In the Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the society uses “Community, Identity, Stability” as their motto. I find that this motto is quite interesting because all those three words have similar rhymes at the end. There are several ways shown in the novel on how the society lives based on the motto.…
How do shared events, past and present, define communities? All communities can be defined by shared events. Everything that we do is a reflection of the things that we have experienced in the past, or are currently experiencing. It is these shared events, both past and present, that essentially define who we are and how we belong within a community. They provide a basis for our self perception which is influenced by the different values and ideologies of the communities that we surround ourselves in.…
Whereas segregation by its nature sounds evil; examining the effects of “voluntary segregation” the discussion must begin with the underlying cause “forced segregation”. Voluntary segregation tends to be the result of some form of forced segregation; where family, race, nationality, and religion tends to be the primary cause. This cause may lead individuals to this decision where they choose a path of voluntary segregation, but the effects can either be positive or negative to the individual and or the community. Wiki.com states, “Community: a group sharing a common understanding and often the same language, manners, and traditions.” The community is often the catalyst, where the cause that is, forced segregation has a direct effect on the decisions made by its victims, whether direct or indirect.…
What makes up a community, its formation and its maintenance, can vary. Whether working in the same building, having the same ethnicity, or sharing the same stressors all which affect ones well-being is the foundation of a community (Adelman et al. 2008). To me, a community is a group of people, with similar interests, who are able to assist and reach out to each other in times of struggle. Within my community, I am able to feel comfortable leaving my home, knowing the majority of the people that live around me know me or my family personally.…
1. How did the concept of community evolve throughout the twentieth century? Is there any consistency with this concept in contemporary society? Classically, the concept of community was one that didn’t have a specific meaning or seemed vague, although was ideally known as a representation of groupness with a sense of belonging and social solidarity. It also represented those from the same geographical entity working together to achieve a common purpose, and distinguishing that from ideas of individualism or social isolation (Day, 2006).…
My eye’s widened dramatically, instantly I turn my attention too Stranger who has gone stiff, his hands curl into fists by his sides and his eyes narrow on the direction of the voice, As though he was ready to take on a intruder.. The testosterone in the air that radiated from him was enough to scream ‘King kong.’ As Stranger sent me a glance from over his shoulder and I quickly got to my feet,”Jonathan! What’s up bro!”…
And we can use the following elements to define a community, “Geographic area, social interaction and common ties”. Let’s have a quick review on two distinctive period of China and we could spot some of the differences in our communities…
Community can be defined as: “a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists.” (Dictionary.com) It is more complex than just a definition. Community has diverse meanings for different people and a simple definition doesn’t describe the complexities of what a community is. I have been part of my church, Inclusion Community, for the last four years and in that time I have had the opportunity to find out what it is like being in an open community that encourages, supports, accepts, and teaches you.…
Regardless if a community is a sports team, a religious group, or American society, communities give their members some set of perks. These are opportunities the members would not ordinarily receive on their own. Although some opportunities are for the benefit of their members, some opportunities extend outside their population into other communities. Not only are there potential opportunities to gain knowledge and experience when two or more communities begin to intertwine, there is also a risk, as English Professor, Terrence Brunk explains within his article, “Reading, Ratification, and Risk”. Throughout this piece, Brunk explains the possible ratifications associated with socializing with those who hold different ideas.…
Many people have different ideas of what a community is and what makes a community successful, but, overall, the themes of unity and cooperation come to mind. The writer Rousseau displayed his thoughts about community in his book, The main idea he discussed was that people must surrender their freedom in order to gain the benefits of functioning collectively as a group. I decided to test this theory by observing some of the staff members of a nursing home who are attending a meeting to come up with specific solutions for each residents’ weight loss problem. Every week the same staff members, which include the director of nursing, two unit managers, the dietary manager, and the dietician, meet to review the weights of all patients and, more…
