Firstly, it’s a utopia because of the pre-organised lives that everyone lives and enjoys. In the book it says; “he was certain that his Assignment, whatever it was to be, would be the right one for them (Lowry, 52-53).” This shows the faith and trust that Jonas and the people around him, have in the elders to choose their jobs correctly. They also trust that they will choose their jobs to tear specific liking.
Secondly, in the community no one will ever starve or be starving. In the book it says; “He was not starving it was pointed out... no one in the community was starving, had ever been starving or will ever be starving
