The dominate impression received about the setting of The Giver by Lois Lowry, is the order and similarity of the community. We received this impression due to all the rules and expectations, given to the citizens to abide by. An example would appear in the beginning of the book. A visiting group of children, from another community, visited Lily's play area. From there a male from the other community cut in front of the line to the slide. Yet his abruptive decision, not only violated the community laws, but his actions were overlooked. Directly from the books it says “ My Childcare group was at the play area,and we had a visiting group of sevens, and they didn’t obey the rules at all. One of them -a male; I don’t know his name-kept going right
