a. How did you ensure that your interventions were socially and culturally appropriate for the population served (IA)?
• As a class we had a discussion and survey about the needs of a diverse college population, and concluded that students are faced with a lot of stress. Which is something we knew being students ourselves.
• We based interventions on the culture of students and the overall important holistic health needs that college students would need to reduce stress. We thought that we could go with some alternative therapies because this might be something that not many students know about.

• We educated based on the questions they asked, and made sure that it was specific for their lifestyle. For example, a veteran who was into fitness came to the fitness table asking question about ways to reduce his stress through fitness. Having done military training, he only worked out with weights. We educated about the benefits of yoga and other exercises that stretched the muscles and could provide ways for stress relief.
2. Considering both your preparation and participation, what do you see at the public health nurse’s role in health promotion with diverse populations?
• The main role as a public health nurse is to provide care for all, and that this takes an open mind to not provide judgement to those that are different then our own beliefs. Second, it is important that we advocate to make sure the population is getting the best care.
