Empathy In To Kill A Mockingbird Essay

The Community College of Aurora put on the play To Kill a Mockingbird. The play takes place in Maycomb, Alabama in 1936. Scout Finch, the narrator, takes you on the journey of the events that happened that year during the summer. She plays with her brother, Jem and her neighbor Charles Baker Harris which everyone calls “Dill”. The three of them are curious about the man that lives next door to the Finches, the Radley’s, Arthur “Boo” Radley is the talk of the town and made to be a mysterious man that never comes outside. This fascinated the three kids, Scout, Jem and Dill. In the meantime, Atticus Finch, Scout and Boo’s father is representing Tom Robinson, a black man, accused of rape. Other people in the town talk poorly about Atticus and Scout and Jem do not like it. During the trail the three kids sneak into the colored section to watch the preceding. They witness the Ewells that are convicting Tom of the crime, actually have lied. Even though Atticus proved that the Ewells have lied, Tom is convicted of rape. Tom is shot trying to escape jail. At times, their acting pulled you deep into the story to better be able to help you feel the empathy that they were feeling towards other characters.
