The rich hold all political sway in the modern world; this ultimately means that in politics, the rich will be in favor of the rich rather than the poor. The same is true in economics, where the rich will constantly control trade and the products that are being pushed out. “All old established industries have been destroyed” (p. 223) is a statement made by Marx that applies to today. Industries that first became popular were eventually pushed aside for newer and better industries that not only appeared locally, but internationally. The west began to obtain a lot of power and wealth that caught attention from eastern countries, making them dependent on the west (p. 224). The United States noticed this and took the opportunity to start constructing their industries in other countries; this helped the United States gain more money without spending as much money. Factory workers are also expected to follow certain guidelines, however, if any are violated, the consequences back then are the same today in some countries. This idea of capitalism is one idea made by Marx that still holds true to this …show more content…
Since the power was in the hands of the rich, Marx believed that the rich would stay rich while driving everyone else into being poor. He did not believe that there could be a stable middle class that were not necessarily rich, but also not poor (p. 228). Therefore the government would continue to be run by the rich, and that idea of communism would spread across the world. This however is not true; there are only a select few countries that remain under a communist government. Another reason why communism failed is that people are greedy. Communism failed to provide incentives for the workers and citizens to work hard and be productive (Whistling In The Wind. (n.d.). Retrieved April 03, 2016, from http://whistlinginthewind.org/). There are benefits to equality, but once everyone has everything, people are not going to work towards anything because they already have everything. It is the same thing in reverse; how would someone work hard and exert energy if the reward was a bare minimal? People were also guaranteed jobs back then because unemployment and getting fired did not exist; this made it harder for anyone to have a say in their job. Communism also prevented innovation; many European countries failed to develop new technologies or adopt the western lifestyle (Whistling In The Wind. (n.d.). Retrieved April 03, 2016, from
