Introduction Without a doubt, one of the most precious characteristics of a school principal is his or her ability to communicate effectively. Consequently, as a future school administrator I will make sure to use as many communication skills as possible. In this assignment, I will use the communication terms included in Module 1 DB assignment to perform four informal conversations with a parent, student, teacher, and cafeteria worker. Moreover, I will use four strategies to successfully conduct the conversations: active listening, critical listening, interpersonal communication, persuasion.
• Parent – During the week I privately tutor some students in the afternoon. After one my tutoring session was over, a mother of one of my students spoke with me for several minutes. She told that a doctor found out that her son was autistic. Immediately, I used the active listening skill. I truly wanted to go home, but I took my time listening to her attentively and with compassion.

During one of our conversations, one of my students approached me to besmirch the name of another teacher. I used the critical listening because teachers and school administrators must to judge what they hear by assessing the facts presented for real accuracy and seek the truth and fallacies in the arguments presented.
• Teacher – One of the teachers who work with me for the Bilingual Department, was complaining that she was not making enough money and that life was not fair. I decided to use the interpersonal communication strategy to frankly tell her my opinion. I choose the right words to not offend her or make her feel bad. But then again, I told her that she needed to study more and look for a better position somewhere

I firmly believe that when communicating with children it is important to use the right type of language appropriate for their age and stage of development, individual needs and abilities. I am also aware of the fact that effective communication is an active process that combines a set of skills that includes nonverbal communication, attentive listening as well as being considerate and showing respect. Whether communicating on a one-to-one basis or in a group, the following principles apply just the same.…

Beginning teachers can encounter a variety of situations within the classroom in relation to a child with a disability or additional needs. These recommendations give three possible scenarios for the emergent teacher. Child A has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with anxiety as his main challenge. His mother expresses that she would like the school to take a proactive holistic approach. To facilitate this the teacher would focus on developing his self-management skills and being able to identify and communicate his emotions (Exemplars, 2016, p. 5).…

I have been blessed with many different opportunities in my life to experience diversity through my school, church, and work. Being a part of a church has taught me to always have open arms to anyone that may be different than myself, with that being said my church has introduced me to many different people from all different walks of life. My church also has a large congregation of the Asian culture. Through the many social events of my church I have learned a lot about the Asian culture between their family values, foods, clothing, and gender relations. Working hand and hand with them to serve others has taught me about the differences between our ways of life, but most of all has shown me the similarities between us.…

Effective communication is very important in the health care field. As a radiographer, maintaining a positive attitude towards others, explaining jargon words to patients and seeking help from health care professionals when necessary are some examples of effective communication skills (Crawford & Bonham, 2006). For example, during placement, I must try to remain professional, objective and optimistic when speaking to patients. I must ensure care, sympathy and empathy for patients.…

While communicating with others it is important to listen to another person carefully to interpret his/her message properly and accurately. In this communication episode I have used different listening strategies, like selecting, attending, understanding, remembering and responding to communicate effectively. “Listening is defined as selecting, attending to, constructing meaning from, remembering and responding to verbal and non-verbal messages”( Beebe, Beebe, Redmond, Geerinck and Salem-Wiseman, 2015, p.113 ).…
