Media is being consumed by everyone daily. Whether it is for work purposes or recreational use, media has become essential for most individuals. It has become the normal way of living. It is important to acknowledge the significance of media in the society (Mike Gasher, David Skinner & Rowland Lorimer, 2012). The communication and media world will be forever evolving and growing. This commentary will illustrate how the concepts through chapters 1 and 5 expand my understanding of the media entertainment and consumption through examples. Mass communication is ‘communication on a large scale’ (Gasher et al, 2012). There are many instances of mass communication. For instance, this can be the radio station. Convergence is conjoining and merging together something that was separated in the past (Gasher et al. 2012). Now days, most things are intertwined with one another. An example of this is music on a cell phone. Prior to technology today, music was on a completely different device. For instance, an iPhone contains the application iTunes; in turn, downloading music has become easily accessible. This depletes the demand of iPods or MP3 players. Convergence is imperative with the media today since most media is converged with one another. The media domain in Canada is considerably involved with media from America. The information society is vital when considering media in Canada. The information society is fabricating, distributing and consuming media to run the Canadian financial system (Gasher et al. 2012). I often overlook this since most things come from America so it is normal that I watch American shows on a Canadian network. There are many successful Canadian shows; however, American shows often triumph them with ratings.
