The author’s definition of battlefronts is the common sexual issues that can hinder a man’s journey towards God’s gift of sexual success. If the reader is not experiencing these battles then this chapter can provide insight to help others.
Battlefront 1 – Abuse
Besides sexual abuse, the author has included two other forms – physical and emotional. “To be a whole man your soul must be healed from past pain as much as possible.” (p. 36) In self-protection a child can pull away from relationships into isolation. In isolation, the child will not be able to develop interpersonal relationships for later in life, including marriage, work, and as a student. A man does not have the ability to express real intimacy. This involves the primary relationship between a husband and wife. People on the outside do not know the lack of marital intimacy. The husband may not communicate, takes time away from her, and does not desire nor initiate sex with her. This condition is formed from the man’s secret fantasies, pornographic material, or masturbation habits, which steals time from his wife. “Sexual anorexia is an active, almost compulsive, withholding of emotional, spiritual, and sexual intimacy in a primary relationship.” (p. 42) On pages 42 and 43, the author presents a sexual anorexia self-test. If five or more questions are answered “yes’, then sexual anorexia is most likely present. To defeat these battlefronts the author lays out a “very practical, non-touchy-feely approach.
RESOLVING SEXUAL TRAUMA
The author outlines a process, including exercises, which will help a man overcome sexual trauma. Weiss bases the outline on the scriptural account of Jesus cleansing the temple. “Jesus identified the sin and expressed His anger against it, with the intent of cleaning the temple and restoring it to its God-given purpose (Luke 19:45-48).” (p. 45) The analogy is that our bodies are represented by the temple. Man, cleansing his temple and restoring it to its divine purpose, honors God.

Weiss has listed three books for further study. “Sexual addiction is by far the leading addiction in the church today.” (p. 51) The first step is to acknowledge your addiction. God already knows, so do not live in denial and lie to yourself. The author states, by definition, addiction needs help for recovery. Quoting 1 John 1:9 is not the complete answer. This Scripture addresses forgiveness, but not healing. James 5:16 addresses healing. Humility is key to recovery because it allows for accountability. Support groups are great because there is a trust factor within the group. The author has not found one instance where the trust of anonymity has been broken (p. 53). All churches are encouraged to establish support groups. For local help Weiss gives his website address to
