The United States of America is no stranger to tragedies. Whether it be the Columbine High School Massacre or the shooting at Virginia Tech, America has been plagued by terrorism and the murder of many civilians. Although often thought to be unstoppable, I have constructed a plan to end the reign of terror. By instating strict gun control, intensive outpatient therapy for military veterans, and allocating money for more intense security in public spaces, the United States government can efficiently protect the citizens from the atrocities that have plagued the country in the past. In 1999, two young men by the names of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot, killed, and severely injured students and staff at Columbine High School. Harris and …show more content…
I plan on using more rigorous background checks to prevent certain individuals from accessing weapons. These certain individuals include criminals and the mentally unstable or insane. If someone is deemed unsatisfactory by our standards, they will not only be denied a weapon or license to wield one, but they will also be put on a special watch list. Therefore, the government will have a list of those who have attempted to get the guns, and they will be able to monitor their activity. For example, if someone who is a registered psychopath or sociopath, they will be turned away and noted for further examination into their character. I also believe that their should be a form of a psychoanalytical test that each applicant should go through. This test allows for the United States to document the mental health of certain individuals. By instating these acts, receiving a weapon will become more difficult for criminals and citizens in …show more content…
Many soldiers come home from war and are tormented with visions of the death and destruction that they have unfortunately witnessed. Post-traumatic stress disorder is very common and can make returning to day to day life difficult. It can also cause veterans to act out violently and even kill those around them while in a delusional state. By requiring soldiers to go to therapy for at least six months soldiers will be provided with stability and coping mechanisms for when they have the hallucinations and flashbacks. The therapists will also be required to help them get back into the workforce as well as finding a home if they don’t have anywhere to go. Therapy could help soldiers move on and live happy, healthy, and successful

Prior to the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald in October of 2014, one officer requested a Taser to better diffuse the conditions. No officer near the scene had another non-lethal way to deal with the situation at hand (Give Cops). This is exact testament contributes greatly to the need for gun control laws–even in law enforcement. There are those who support gun control laws in the United States and there are those who oppose gun control laws. Gun control laws should not violate a citizen’s right to bear arms, however, these laws should exist in order to assure security for the country as a whole.…

Guns are used all around the world, but here in the United States, we need to keep our gun usage limited with gun laws. Gun laws are put into action to make sure firearms are used responsibly; however, people will always find a way to break these laws no matter how many are made. Our Second Amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”, gives U.S. citizens the right to own a weapon and use it for the right reasons. Gun laws will not reduce the amount of gun deaths in the U.S. because gun laws do not determine crime; gun ownership determines crime numbers. There were 460,000 gun deaths in the U.S. between 1999-2013 and this was the 12th leading cause of death.…

Gun violence in America Gun violence is an all-time high. In the wake of Sandy Hook, widespread concern forced legislators to take a second glance at our gun laws. When twenty children and six educators were gunned down, many citizens were stunned, outraged, and begged authorities to pass more crucial gun laws because with fewer guns, there could possibly be fewer incidents involving gun violence. Many people believe that the widespread availability of guns is making society unsafe. Each year, nearly 100,000 Americans are shot, 32,000 of them die, 47 children are shot every day, and eight of them die, according to the U.S. News Digital Weekly.…

Easy access to firearms is an increasingly serious threat to U.S. public safety and will remain so in the future if gun control is not a main concern for the federal government. The current loose regulation of guns is not enough to protect Americans citizens, as evidenced by the increase in gun related crimes in the United States. Congress should promptly approve President Obama’s proposal for a new assault weapons ban and a more stringent system of background checks for gun purchasers. According to Thomas Hobbes, it is the sovereign’s duty to hold his citizens to the rules created to ensure peace among a group (Hobbes 114). Therefore, it is naturally the President of the United States responsibility to protect his citizens by creating and…

In this country, a rising issue that is being openly debated more often is gun control. This topic is becoming important in this country because of the rapid increase of mass shootings located all around the country. One of the problems is that there are loopholes in the legislation and background checks are not required for private sales. In order to improve the value of background checks all applicants should be required to be screened regardless of where the gun is purchased. In addition, it should be required that all applicants for gun ownership undergo a psychiatric screening and be cleared by a licensed psychiatrist. This is important because most people who commit gun-related violence in the United States are mentally unstable. It is important that the questionnaire address the mental stability of the person buying the gun, as well the stability of other family members.…

There are many political debates about gun control and there is not really an answer on how much gun control is actually needed in our country. Gun control has been a problem for many years and has technically two sides of the argument, there are the people that support gun control and there are the people that support the rights to own a gun. In today 's society there are many gun control laws, but people do not think its enough. A weapon is not some kind of toy that everyone should have, it 's a weapon that is used to cause harm and by enabling everyone to have one would cause fear in the community and would be the start of many conflicts as well. There are many headlines that people cannot believe.…

People are starting to demand a more strict policy towards gun ownership. Although some people believe that the need for personal gun ownership should be banished completely, most people in the states just want more regulation for those trying to own guns. Some action has been done in efforts to make this desire a reality. President Obama in the wake of these recent shootings has devised a plan, a new “check system”. This system would make it illegal for the known mentally handicapped to obtain a firearm.…

Increased gun control is needed to reduce incidents of gun violence in the U.S. Contention 1: States with stricter gun control laws have fewer deaths from gun-related violence compared to states with more lax laws Gun-related violence can be associated with the the restrictions put in place by certain states. According to a study put together by the Harvard School of Public Health, states in which guns are more prevalent--as in Wyoming, where 63% of households reported owning guns--rates of suicide were higher. The inverse was also true: where gun ownership was less common, suicide rates were also lower. This statement was supported by a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health Professor of Health Policy David Hemenway. Hemenway quotes in this study that “studies show that most (suicide) attempters act on impulse, in moments of panic or despair.…
