1. BACKGROUND
Patriarchy is a social system where man holds primary power and predominant moral authority, social privileges and political power. The fathers exercise power over his wife and children. Patriarchy is undermining women’s growth economically and socially there by impacting the growth and development of the country at large
Despite the economic social and developmental achievements that have been obtained in the country and abroad, women are subject to many problems which are instigated by patriarchy and this is undermining women’s growth within the society.

I believe that by pointing out the disadvantages of patriarchy to the community and the nation at large ,it will help in making people realize that patriarchy is causing stunted growth in the country’s social political and economic growth as they do not consider women’s opinions to be of great value.
SCOPE OF STUDY
The thesis focus is mainly going to be drawn towards the negative effects of patriarchy, focusing on how women are being pulled down by patriarchy thus undermining women’s growth economically and individually.
The research is going to be looking at the late 19th century analyzing an epistoral novel, The Colour Purple by Alice Walker which was published in 19th century
In order to finish my dissertation, I need adequate time to work on it so an estimated time of about a month should be enough for me to complete my dissertation.
