She had played an important role in the development of Celie 's life. Nettie did not spend so much time with her sister when they were young, but she kept writing letters and send them to her when she was away from home, she never stopped even though she did not receive anything back from her for too long. As growing up, Celie is the uneducated and the unattractive girl, unlike her younger sister Nettie who is smart and beautiful. Celie was treated badly, she left school after she became pregnant at a young age. Celie did all that to protect her sister so she can have a better life. As a result, Nettie feels satisfied with her life, even though she did not have relationships with men and was not a married person for almost all of this novel, because she learned to be an independent woman and never thought of her own worth by depending to men. When Nettie finally felt that she is completed, she decided to marry the man she has met in Africa, and now she is happy with him. In the novel The Color Purple we can see both good and evil relationships through all the book from the beginning to the end, but the good relationships are usually the ones we see more often than the evil ones. However, in Sula is more likely all we see are the evil relationships.
