In this context, for example, appeared the legend of El Dorado, which produced a considerable amount of travels of the colonizers through the Colombian territory. In relation to the political reasons of the colonization we can count the necessity of establish a solid system of control of the Caribbean coast, which can allow to the Spaniards use the Caribbean ports for the distribution of the resources exploited from their overseas territories. In this sense, the colonization of Colombia, although moved in its beginning for economical reasons, had, in the end, a strategic importance, which can be seen in the several attempts to invade this territory, made by the British and the French, once the Spanish crown governed
