Property was now a fundamental idea that every man was entitled to if he worked for it (Schue, Lecture 04/01/2016).The government is given power by the people, on the strict condition that it is used for the good of the people (Schue, Lecture 04/01/2016). This is same exact principal the American government follows. The citizen’s vote who they want in office under the assumption that they will have their best interest at heart. One the most important ideas that Rousseau came up with was the separation of government (Schue, Lecture 04/01/2016). Early on Rousseau realize that government needs to be balanced and responsibility needs to be shared and specialized in. The two braches he came up with was the executive branch and legislative Branch (Schue, Lecture 04/01/2016). The legislative branch became the highest power of the state (Schue, Lecture 04/01/2016). The executive branch became below the legislature, acting as umpire, and as defender of the people against outsiders (Schue, Lecture 04/01/2016). Later on in the American government added the judicial branch. With these three branches each specializing in a different part of government helps society to run smoothly. The branches help to keep each other in check and balanced. The Americans were able to take Enlightenment ideas and used them to their benefit. Just like British had used them to their
