Tufts is one of the few universities in the nation to have both an ED1 application pool and an ED2 application pool. This dual ED program benefits students even better than a single ED program. Each college student knows what it is like to constantly worry whether or not the score on the ACT is high enough to get accepted into a school or if certain AP credits will transfer to the school of choice. It’s my junior year of high school, and I had just begun looking at colleges and universities I believed would suit me personally and educationally. Each school was severely critiqued on certain elements they had to offer, such as, majors/minors, clubs and organizations, pre-professional programs, and even extracurricular activities. This was going to be the place I would ultimately spend the next four years of my life, so I needed to make the perfect decision.…

It was December of my senior year of high school, and college application deadlines were approaching quickly. I was recovering from a major illness at the time, and wasn’t ready to think about college. My plan was to spend a year living at home and working before I pursued higher education. In the following months, my recovery progressed rapidly.…

I am the first generation in my family to attend a University and never had an explanation about the application process. An educational opportunity I took advantage of was the Early Academic Outreach Program. This preparation program gave a presentation at my AP English class during my junior year and motivated me to assist their two day weekend bootcamp. The program was so valuable that it was worth it waking up early and for my parents driving me to UCLA for two days. It helped me to overcome my anxiety and my hesitation about the application process to Universities.…

As of today I continue to be an EOP freshman who is the first from my family to attend college and the first to be on the right path of obtaining a bachelor’s degree. To be honest, I am proud to be an EOP student at CSUN not because they give me a small amount of money but because I like the idea of knowing that I am representing the impossible. As you know, people like me are not meant to go to college or even finish high school. Those basic assumptions are made based on our families’ social class or ethnicity. I know we all come from low income families that know nothing about college and who’s kids only grow up to learn that they must start working to help their families economically.…
