The definition of a professional, at the foundation of the meaning of the word, is an individual who performs their duties with respect for themselves and others. Professionals are held to a higher standard in regards to ethics and laws because they typically have leadership roles within their communities. A person who possesses this fundamental attribute is able to communicate effectively, perform conflict resolution, and receive positive recognition from their peers. A professional individual also maintains a neat and clean appearance and their choice of intelligent and meaningful verbal expressions is also a key factor in this description. I initially focused my goal on simply graduating and passing the NCLEX. The next goal that was incorporated was maintaining the best grade point average I can make just in case I wanted to attend a graduate school. I see now that it is possible for me to continue my education with an upward momentum that I did not believe could occur when I began this journey. I have been immersed in the nursing world for the past few years and I have discovered so many various opportunities that are available to those who are willing to work hard for them. My ten year goal at this point is limitless. As long as I am continuing my education, and following my heart, I will be proud of my accomplishments and I no longer see any reason why this will not become a reality. Additionally, I will strive to incorporate all of Jean Watson’s Caritas Processes (Watson Caring Science Institute, 2015) in my future nursing practice. Her theories of compassion and caring, along with the ten factors, encourage nurses, new and experienced, to always strive to perform our care with a love for each human spirit and a deep respect for the honor entrusted to us in the care of each other. Caritas Processes can be incorporated into each and every interaction between a nurse and a patient in order to facilitate a comprehensive approach to health and the wellbeing of all
