From May to August 2016 I worked as an Event and Field Support Co-op student at Pepsico Beverages for the Foodservice Manager in Atlantic Canada, Chris Munroe. My office was based out of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia but my work region was Atlantic Canada. A few of my co-workers included Chris Munroe (Foodservice Manager), Glenn Peach (Foodservice Representative), JD Boudreau (Key Account Manager) and Kelly Hanson (Admin Assistant). All three of my past co-op placements have been different from one another but were still along the lines of what I hope to do in a full-time career after graduation. The position at Pepsico Beverages allowed me to travel all over Atlantic Canada with many different people from the organization.…
Initially, I saw my impact in my classroom. I understood how things worked in my own classroom community, but I now realize that I did not have a sound understanding of the school and district as a whole. This program has broadened my thinking and reshaped the way I view public education. I believe that through the coursework and internship experiences I have become a much more mindful educator, and I have greatly increased my knowledge and experiences regarding public education.…
Helping out in the classroom has taught me a lot about the education field, and has helped me consider all of my career…
Writing Sample Without a doubt in my mind the best class I have taken in the past two years of my academia was my high school Spanish class. I developed a very good relationship with my instructor Sr. K, that was probably the biggest reason it was my favorite class; However, the way his class was stuctured and how he taught contributed it to being my favorite class in the last two years. We would always start the day with a class plan so everyone would know what was going to take place in class and the next. Sr. k was very detailed in lessons…
A few years ago I was asked by my department chair to teach an English Language Development (ELD) class. As I had only been teaching for a year, I was unfamiliar with the full requirements of the class and nervous to take on what I felt was a BIG responsibility. Once I accepted our dean of curriculum asked me to be the ELD advisor. I took two days to decide that with my family background, my grandfather picked fruit for a living and my mom picked and packed growing up, I could make the students understand that working hard in school and continuing their education post high school could help them get more out of life than merely staying at a menial job. My first year was difficult.…
PSU always gives the students all the guidelines to help them to be successful in Co-Op, and preparing them for this journey by conducting beneficial workshops such as; workshops related to write the CV and answer the interview questions in a proper way. I had different…
I can honestly say I have learned so much from Creekview Intermediate and continue to do so. I have learned many things about how a school system works. They use 504’s and Response to Interventions (RTI’s). 504’s ensures that any child who has a disability recognized under the law and is attending an elementary or secondary educational school receives certain accommodations that will ensure their academic achievement. Then I’ve erudite that RTI’s are identifying and supporting students with learning and/or behavior needs.…
The one assignment in my ePortfolio that best prepared me for college and my future career would have to be being a teacher assistant at Danbrook Elementary School. The Principles of Teaching and Learning class is a Regional Occupational Program where its main goal is to help prepare students for a future career in teaching. Therefore, three days out of the week I go to Danbrook Elementary to help assist a third-grade teacher in order to gain some insight and experience on how to teach young students. Some of the things I get to do at my site is to read to the children, work on their sight words, work in small reading groups, and practice teaching lessons to the students. Being a teacher assistant has helped me prepare for any future college…
If I had to give advice to someone who is thinking about getting into co-op I would tell them to definitely do it. My experience with cooperative education has been a positive one and has opened my eyes in what I want to do in the future. By taking co-op it can make someone realize if a certain job is something they would actually like to pursue in the future. It is very beneficial because if someone does take co-op and it turns out that they do not like what originally thought, it is good that they realized it now rather than after college and university. Everyone has to do something that they enjoy, I know I could not do a job that I would hate; this is what co-op has done for me.…
Before taking American Politics, I had very mixed feelings on the subject of group work. I could see both it’s highlights and weaknesses, with past ones leaning towards the latter. Most of this group work had occurred pre-high school education and was usually very polarized towards one individual's personal work ethic. If one or two individuals failed to do their part, the project itself would progress at a normal rate and the timeline for completion would be more compact than the preferred alternative. Highschool itself included very few group projects with the exception of the occasional collaborative presentation.…
High School was a tough time for me when it came to academics. I was in all honors classes, dancing up to 8 hours a week and had a part-time job. I continually felt as if I was drowning in school work and the very industrial set up of many of my classes just made me feel worse. Most of my classes and teachers were structured like a factory and gave little to no room for creativity. As someone who loved art, I often found myself seeking refuge in the art department with my art teachers.…
Currently, my field placement is taking place at Crim Elementary school and I am in a 1st grade classroom. The classroom consists of 20 students, a teacher, a paraprofessional, a Bowling Green State University student who is doing her student teaching, and myself. Although I am only with the students one day a week, I have still learned a lot through the students and also the various teachers. The paraprofessional is in the classroom during all hours of the school day. When I arrive in the morning, the students have four different stations that they rotate through.…
I believe in Walden’s mission statement of positive social change. Walden’s mission statement is one of the things that attracted me to the university to pursue my PhD. I am an advocate of positive social change. I enjoy helping others reach their personal and professional goals. To promote positive social change, I teach business courses to high school students who become first generation college graduates. I teach college courses to high school students that become the first person in their family to receive a college degree.…
I am pleased that I was able to have the opportunity to co teach for the first time. This assignment allowed me to grasp what I will expect if I ever get to co teach when I am a teacher. I always enjoyed working with people when it comes to assignments. It can be challenging being the only teacher in the classroom, because students may not be able to comprehend what the teacher is saying. Furthermore, having another teacher in the classroom the student may be able to understand the other teacher.…
I am coming out of this experience being more appreciative for Elementary teachers and seeing how much patience this job entails with this age group. There is a lot of planning that goes into teaching a class every day that I was also unaware of. I was thrilled to observe the students improvement on their oral health knowledge and engagement throughout the…
