The most common way that Dick was able to manipulate Perry is by adding honey or baby to the end of what he said. While in the Clutter house, Perry stopped Dick from doing an unspeakable act so Dick responded, “O.K., honey. If that’s the way you feel (244).” Although Perry was asserting his dominance in the moment by not allowing Dick to touch Nancy, by calling Perry honey he was attempting to manipulate Perry.
