What should go into a clinical interview? First we must define “clinical interview.” A clinical interview according to research on this topic is defined as a conversation with a purpose. This conversation should consist of the client chief complaint (what brings you to see me?). The conversation with the client should have no central theme, the client role can be defined with the initial interview, and the client can start and end the conversation at will. The interviewer should use direct content to achieve a specific purpose, defined the role between the client and this should occur at a definite time and place. During a clinical interview using open-ended questions are helpful in finding out more information about the client and their situations. These types of questions require the client to give a response that are more in depth and has a lengthier response, whereas, close-ended questions can be answered in one word . These are not the type of question the interviewer should be asking during a clinical interview these questions have a potential to end the conversation. Open-end questions are the ones that usually spark the conversations with the client. (http://examples.yourdictionary.com). There are different types of clinical interviews. Intake is one type of interview use by psychologist and mental status exam is another type. During the intake interview the psychologist asks, why are you here and how can I help you. They also want to know your mental history, as well as, your physical history. The finally question the psychologist may ask, is what do you hope to gain from this interview. It covers their appearance, behavior, speech, emotions, thought content, perception and intellectual functions. The client appearance consists of how they are dress, is the client dressed appropriately or is their clothing disheveled. The next thing is the rate of the client speech; is the client speech pressure, slurred, loud, stuttering, or is the client mute. The client emotions are their facial expressions, eye contact, and motor activity. How does the client move? Do they have an increase in speed or a decrease in speed?     In the interview as with Client A we explored the issues of work-life balance, stress and poor diet, from a Nutritional Medicine modality. The interview flowed perfectly throughout the time frame and in my opinion I was able to develop a rapport and trust with Client A.
