The Role Of Global Warming Trends In Yuba City

Improved Essays
I moved to Yuba City, California approximately twelve years ago and have lived there ever since. I chose to analyze the climate trends of Yuba City because, even though I may move away soon after graduating college, it is where my parents will continue to live and I would like to have an idea of future climate changes in their city. Yuba City is a fairly small town in Sutter County with a population of 65,416 people (United States Census, 2013). It is located on the Feather River 45 miles north of Sacramento at latitude: 39.140 and longitude: -121.617 (LatLong.net, 2015). It was founded in 1849, established as a distribution center for supplying the Gold Rush 49ers (Yuba City, 2000a). Yuba City is also home to the Sutter Buttes, often referred …show more content…
After 1960, there are many more years above an average of 11.0 °C in February. The July 5 year and 11 year running averages do not appear to indicate a warming trend, however. The summers in Yuba City seem to be remaining fairly consistent or are not producing a noticeable trend while the winters seem to be getting warmer. The running average graphs are useful in smoothing out the erratic year-to-year variations and long-term trends become more noticeable. With more data available, as in the ground station data, a longer year running average can make long-term trends even more noticeable which is important when discussing climate changes. Climate is characterized by long-term weather patterns (Bloom, 2010). The disadvantage of using the long-term running averages is that they do not show the year-to-year variations which may be important when discussing other aspects of weather …show more content…
The weather can change drastically form one year to the next making it hard for the public to feel or notice the long-term climate changes. I also have a better sense of the reality of the climate changes that are in fact occurring. Our area has suffered with ongoing drought for many years now and warming winters or longer summers may provide some explanation for this. Climate change is not just a global issue but a local one that we all could be more aware of and do our part in mitigating future

Over the course of the last couple of years, weather patterns have exceedingly changed due to climate change. Overall, climate change is seen as a very controversial issue because some people believe that climate change is a legitimate issue and has been directly caused by humans, while others believe that the weather changes are just natural processes that should be expected to change from time to time and that climate change has absolutely nothing to do with the recent temperature changes that the world has been going through. However, climate change has been proven to be the leading cause of changing weather patterns all over the world, as well as the start of the El Niño effect, which is a series of climatic changes in the Pacific Ocean…

apable effects of a warming world. Miami, and major parts of Florida are a great risk from the earth’s changing climate as the rising oceans threaten to swallow most of the southern half of the state. Tensions between Bangladesh and India intensify as the rising sea water threatens to displace millions of people, with India’s only solution to the issue being to build a larger border. “The Siege of Miami”, written by Elizabeth Kolbert, paints a terrifying portrait of the consequences of rising sea levels with its effect on human populations. Using scientific evidence as well as with her own personal experiences, she graphically illustrates how climate change is dramatically changing the face of Miami.…
