After 1960, there are many more years above an average of 11.0 °C in February. The July 5 year and 11 year running averages do not appear to indicate a warming trend, however. The summers in Yuba City seem to be remaining fairly consistent or are not producing a noticeable trend while the winters seem to be getting warmer. The running average graphs are useful in smoothing out the erratic year-to-year variations and long-term trends become more noticeable. With more data available, as in the ground station data, a longer year running average can make long-term trends even more noticeable which is important when discussing climate changes. Climate is characterized by long-term weather patterns (Bloom, 2010). The weather can change drastically form one year to the next making it hard for the public to feel or notice the long-term climate changes. I also have a better sense of the reality of the climate changes that are in fact occurring. Our area has suffered with ongoing drought for many years now and warming winters or longer summers may provide some explanation for this. Climate change is not just a global issue but a local one that we all could be more aware of and do our part in mitigating future
