In 1960, the first Republican president was elected, Abraham Lincoln. When the Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln won the 1860 presidential election, the southerners fear that slavery would be abolished reached its highest peak. Although Lincoln was against the expansion of slavery, he said he would not interfere with where it currently existed. However, it wasn’t enough to calm the southerner’s fears. South Carolina threatened that the state would secede, meaning they would leave the Union. However, “South Carolina had threatened to do this before in the 1830s during the presidency of Andrew Jackson, over a tariff that benefited Northern manufacturers but increased the cost of goods in the South.”(Causes of the Civil War) In 1860, South Carolinas senators resigned, with the legislature creating an ordnance stating “"The union now subsisting between South Carolina and other States, under the name of 'The United States of America, ' is hereby dissolved."(The South Secedes) South Caroline had seceded from the other states. South Carolina then asked other states to join them, later resulting in eleven other states, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee seceding from the Union, which began the creation of the Confederacy …show more content…
The Reconstruction faced many challenges, but had good outcomes too. After the Civil War ended, slavery ended. African Americans for the first time could enjoy their own freedom, and with amendments of the constitution being redefined, they gained citizenship as well. Of course the south did not like that blacks were being treated as equals to whites, they dealt with it. Blacks were becoming part of the government for the first time in history, becoming officers, etc. The war changed American society and politics because blacks were free and were no longer forced to work under a white man for free. However, there were certain challenges, such as white men fining their black workers and cutting their wages for whatever reason they wanted. America was still in the right direction for

Though the American Civil War is said to have commenced purely stemming from the issue of slavery, this particular issue involved more than just the slaves and their owners. Politically, the South was deeply involved in its agricultural issues and plantations, while the North was focused on technological and industrial advances. Simply because of the different lifestyles, the South seemed fit for slaves, and due to their everyday jobs, needed more hands to produce all the products that the South was responsible for. The mere issue of slavery tipped the scales on a peaceful nation, throwing the whole country into war. “Although there were serious differences between the sections, all of them except slavery could have been settled through the…

The Civil War was one of the most memorable and historical wars in America. The conflicting beliefs of the north and south lead to a war that consisted of at least 616,000 casualties. Originally, the war began in hopes to prevent the states of the south from leaving the Union of the U.S. States of the south seceded because of a difference of ideas regarding slavery. Some people believe that slavery was the primary cause of the Civil War, though slavery did play a major role in the upbringing of the civil war I do not believe that it was the dominant cause of the war. The first reason that I believe that the statement that the Civil War’s primary cause was slavery is incorrect is that the war began, to prevent disunion in the U.S but, slavery was only a factor that would cause disunion or secession of the south.…

There were multiple things that went right throughout the Reconstruction process. For instance, the abolishment of slavery by the Thirteenth Amendment is a HUGE victory coming out of the Civil War (Schultz, pg.291). This would change the way African American’s live their lives in the United States forever. Another big victory was the passing of the Civil Rights Act, which provided individuals with the protection of the law (Schultz, pg.295). Allowing them to hold property, enforce contracts and to sue or be sued in a court system (Schultz, pg.295).…

The Reconstruction wasn't strong enough to deliver how important and big the problem was and that's why it failed. After a lot of tries African americans had to fight for their own rights until later on they got more accepted in the…

When a state secedes, it immediate divides the nation. After South Carolina seceded in 1860 the other southern states soon followed, making it impossible for the union to reunite. This permanent separation lead to the creation of the Confederate States of America, and the North and South were now two separate countries permanently divided. The Constitution did not have the power to prevent this, and therefore failed to keep the Union together. President Abraham Lincoln said in his message to Congress on July 4, 1861, “The sophism itself is, that any state of the Union may, consistently with the national Constitution, and therefore lawfully, and peacefully, withdraw from the Union, without the consent of the Union, or of any other state.”…

In no way should there ever be a Confederate History Month celebrated in the United States of America. First of all, Steve Tuttle clearly said loud and clear that the Confederacy lost the war. Why celebrate when your side didn’t even win. There’s no point in even saying that it would celebrate the hard work and sacrifice that the “poor” confederate soldiers made. They wouldn’t have died if they didn’t fight to keep such cruel “practices” in the United States.…
