Montana is one of the less known states, located in the Western region of the US. The state 's name comes from the word montaña (mountain in Spanish). Montana is also ranked 4th in size, but 44th in population. Even though it seems quite and unknown to most Americans, it still has its crime to contend with. Most of the crimes occurred in the city of Helena. Helena started as a community in 1864 when explorers looked for gold in Last Chance Gulch. Starting out as a small mining town Helena was recognized as the capital of the Montana in 1875. The 2010 census puts the population of the city at 28,190. Even though the police department is relatively small compared to New York, it is still very productive.

The ICAC task force program was founded in order to help State and local law enforcement agencies enhance investigations concerning offenders who use the Internet, Social Media, or other computer technology to sexually exploit children. The program is currently made of 59 regional task force agencies and funded by the US Department of Justice, Office Of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Center. The Montana Internet Crimes Against Children task force (MT ICAC) was founded in October of 2007. The MT ICAC received money from the US Department of Justice and is currently composed of state, federal and local law enforcement agencies. The MT ICAC also works closely with other task forces established nationally and also internationally to target offenders that sexually exploit children.
The Helena Police Department (HPD) has been an active part of the MT ICAC. It has one full time investigator assigned to the duties associated with the task force objectives. The MT ICAC is not only involved in law enforcement, but also provides help to the public regarding Internet safety in Montana schools and the general public. It provides awareness about safety measures for children and parents, idea of things they may encounter on the Internet, informs children and parents about how to report suspicious internet activity, and links they can access for further
