The Chrysanthemums Theme Essay

In the story the Chrysanthemums are important because they represent Elisa. She is a woman who maintains her house clean and has no involvement with the business her husband takes. I mean she is 35 years already and has no children but loves her husband very much. Although, she believes her husband does not see how valuable she can be. The fact that she mentions she wants to see the fights and her husband insists she will not enjoy being there represent the place she has. The husband sees her as fragil and does not think she will like being where there is blood or injuries. The Chrysanthemums are important to her and seems to take care of them with large importance. In her eyes she sees herself as a beautiful and strong woman. She feels less important but with the chrysanthemums she feels like she has a place. (she wants the men she face to not only see a pretty face or body but valuable her qualities smart & strong) This story seems to explore the themes transformation and feminity though this woman and her Chrysanthemums. This central symbol relates to the theme of the story because it is seen as a whole and a comparison to this woman's character. The story would have not been the same if the chrysanthemums weren't presented because they explore various qualities and central themes. Since the start I knew the flowers were important to her. The transformation is seen in the beginning and throughout the end. In the beginning she is dressed with an apron, gloves, and dirt. After she meet the salesman she takes her gloves off and decides to to take a shower. Elisa looks at herself in the mirror and leave her skin red.
