In literature, stories in the same genre typically are compatible and comparable. While written in different forms of literature, the novel The Chrysalids and the motion picture The X-Men share indefinite similarities. The science fiction novel written by John Wyndham follows the life of David Strorm the protagonist of the story. David has the ability to communicate telepathically with a select group of children. This ability threatens his life and creates the theme of the inevitability of change, as the people in David’s community are afraid of differences in their society. This novel has a similar plot line to the movie The X-Men. In the movie children are born with an extra twist to their chromosomes that allow them to exhibit superhuman abilities. These mutants live in a world where their kind is hated and persecuted by humans. Comparisons could be made for these stories as they both share homologous concepts such as Sealand being similar to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, the moral values of Senator Kelly are similar to those of Joseph Strorm’s and Petra is powerful like Rogue. The events that take place in each story makes these pieces of literature decidedly compatible and comparable. …show more content…
These purpose-built domains segregate the divergent community from the general population. In these segregated areas these unique people are allowed to live their lives freely and fearlessly. Being different is encouraged in both environments. We see this encouragement when Petra states “Not in Sealand. She says that everybody there wants to make them, (thought shapes) and the people who can’t must work hard to get better at it. . . People that can only talk with words have something missing.” (145). Both facilitate what they need to develop their gifts.
