Comparison Of Marriage In Christianity And Islam

Improved Essays
I will compare the Christian and Islamic religions on how they view marriage. In Islam, marriage is important to all socioeconomic groups and the Holy Prophet Muhammad states, “marriage is half the religion”. In comparison, in Christianity, marriage is a religious sacrament and is thought of as a gift from God. In Islam, a Muslim man can marry up to four wives consecutively. Muslims should not marry unbelievers or allow one 's daughter to marry unbelievers. A Muslim man is allowed to marry a woman from Jewish or Christian faith. However, children resulting from the marriage shall be raised as Muslims. A Muslim woman cannot marry a man from another faith until he converts to Islam. If a Muslim married man converts to a different faith, he then …show more content…
The fact that it is not in Islam, is why there is much more divorce there. Some of those marriages only last one day and that is perfectly fine with them. Most of the time marriages in Islam are for the purpose of marriage contracts and family management. Another importance in Christianity, but not in Islam is engagement. This is important because during this time you will see if you really want to be with this person for the rest of your life, and see if you are ready to take this next step seriously. Not having these things is what is making marriage in Islam not being taken seriously. Marriage is suppose to be being with one person for the rest of your lives, loving them unconditionally and supporting them fully. In an Islamic marriage, the men are allowed to have up to four wives at a time. You can not truly love four different people and care for them all the same. I feel like that defeats the whole purpose of marriage and committing yourself to one person. Divorce isn’t even considerable in Islam, but it is in Christianity. Islamic marriage shouldn’t be able to compare to a Christian marriage, because they do not have the same meaning. Islamic marriage should just be something that you do for fun, and to say you did it. In Christianity once the bride is handed over to the groom he is supposed to take care of his wife financially, as well as other aspects. When the Muslim women get married they are paid money by the groom as a gift and can spend it however they want. In marriage once you marry someone, you both become one and financially money should not be completely shared but be an equal asset between the two. For some, it might sound the same as spending money on a ring and giving it to each other, but the bride also provides the husband with a ring in Christianity, and the ring is to symbolize a never ending

In the play “Our Town” the idea of marriage is seen in many different lights, and as is often in the world, it can get a little confusing. One view, held by the Stage Manager himself, is one of simplicity. Meaning that, the ceremony itself, is short and sweet, and the two live side by side the rest of their lives. How different that is from today’s views. All these people, getting the nicest and grandest flowers and getting the monkey's uncle to come to the wedding, all to cut it off three months later because they aren't “compatible”.…

All Americans should have the same rights, including the right to marry the person of their choice. If men and women are equal under the law, why does it matter how they choose to pair off? Everyone’s rights should be just as important, instead of picking and choosing which ones are more important. Different things are important to different people, and everyone wants to be happy.…

I agree with Balswick & Balswick statement, “The high rate of divorce in most Western cultures supports the notion that it is difficult to establish a strong marriage in a postmodern society.” (Balswick & Balswick, 2014, p. 79) In today’s society the stability of marriage is not grounded without a biblical aspect of keeping Christ at center. Marriages should be man and women becoming one, in the aspect of unity being established by vows of promises and not build on rules and conditions. With rules and conditions it creates a positon for self-worth and greediness to enter the unity of a marriage.…

As a Christian, when someone mentions marriage, it is an instinct to instantly picture a man and a woman, due to our views. However, times have changed and society has begun to accept other forms of marriage such as polygamist families. Within these families, they believe that it is their right to have multiple spouses, especially men. How is this accepted within society? According to Christian’s, one man and one woman should marry and stay faithful to their one spouse.…

In the Catholic Church, one learns that divorced members of the Church who remarry, without the previous marriage being annulled, are forbidden to participate sacramentally in the Church, including participation in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and more importantly, not being able to receive the Holy Eucharist. They are also not allowed to hold positions of leadership in the parish or public ministerial roles such as Eucharistic Minister or Lector. Because of this exclusion and ostracization, a 2011 Pew Research Center survey shows that almost one third (33%) of all Catholics who leave the Church do so because of the Church’s teaching on divorce (Pew). Lawler quotes Fr. Kenneth Himes who comments that, “the single biggest reason people cease…

Many people get confused as to why making time for their spouse matters, it’s this thought embedded within us that our children must forever be first priority. The truth is that your spouse needs to come first, yes even before your children. This doesn’t mean you love your spouse more than your children or love your children any less. The simple matter of fact reason why making your spouse a priority matter is because this is the person who will still be by your side once those children are grown. When the world is faced with high divorce rates and many children being raised in blended family units, it’s no wonder why articles like this are surfacing all over the internet.…

Hindu marriage and catholic matrimony have many similarities throughout each of the rituals. They two are similar in the ways that both ceremonies take reading out of their holy books and are performed through the ritual. Symbols are also much the same in both rituals as the symbolize the sacredness of the ritual, in the ways that they are joined together for life. Both religions also share common values of the way they show they are married by the catholics wearing the rings on their finger and the hindus wearing them on their toes. On the other hand there are also many contrasts between these two marriage ceremonies.…

“A man who dares to waste an hour of time has not discovered the value of life,” is an important quote, to me, made by a man with controversial theories, Charles Darwin. Today there is so much debate over whose belief is correct, which holy book is valid, and hatred between cultural and religious groups; and instead of valuing the diversity of our world, we are wasting the time of our valuable life on conflict. I chose Christianity and Islam, because they are two of the largest religious groups of world, and they are allowing political tensions along with divergent cultural worldviews feed into a relationship of distrust with one another. There are extremist in both religious clusters, but, as whole, a question could be asked if they are really…
