I stepped off the stage and breathed a sigh of relief. The benefit concert had been a success. Ali, the social activities manager at Gleneagles Country Club, gave me a hug, and Mr. Spina, the general manager, shook my hand and congratulated me. The country club members who had attended our concert rushed over to ask us questions. The appreciation from our audience, the camaraderie with my fellow musicians, and the fact that we had raised more money than I could have imagined was exhilarating. Throughout the year, I became less shy, more assertive, and overcame whatever obstacle to raise money for the El Hato school, which as of now is over $3,000. I maintained frequent contact with the country club managers, the musicians from my school whom I recruited for the performances, and Operation Education club members to ensure the success of our events. I learned the value of teamwork and of developing strong support systems and personal relationships. I can only hope that I have been able to help the children of Guatemala as much as they have helped me. I will continue my work for them wherever I …show more content…
