Two Italian films set in the 40’s, The Children Are Watching Us (Vittorio De Sica, 1944) and Bicycle Thieves (Vittorio De Sica, 1948), exemplify this topic. It is true that the parents in both films show a strong love for their child. However, their neglect towards their children outweigh their love. Antonio physically abuses Bruno and demonstrates a weakness by reversing child and parent roles with him, Prico experiences the horror of his parents falling apart and separating before his eyes, and in both films, the parents neglect to make their child their top priority. Therefore, child neglect was a strong theme in both films. Child neglect is a recurring issue, not just in Italy, but throughout the world. Films exemplifying such a serious topic benefit the world as it is demonstrating knowledge to those who are unfamiliar with it. Films should continue to represent this hardship and spread this

Pages 305-307 → Film The day was fading into a soft sun-shot haze, pricked here and there by a yellow electric light, and passers were rare in the little square into which they had turned. Dallas stopped again, and looked up. "It must be here," he said, slipping his arm through his father 's with a movement from which Archer 's shyness did not shrink; and they stood together looking up at the house. It was a modern building, without distinctive character, but many-windowed, and pleasantly balconied up its wide cream-coloured front. On one of the upper balconies, which hung well above the rounded tops of the horse-chestnuts in the square, the awnings were still lowered, as though the sun had just left it.…

The movie “Arranged” is a drama-induced film with a powerful message of integrity that religious women uphold. Arranged is a film that displays traditions that are very important in a religious household, such as marriage. Coming from two completely different traditions, Rochel, an orthodox Jew, and Nasira, a dominant Muslim, come to realize that their process for marriage is very similar. I chose to do this assignment rather than the bus ride because once I read what the movie was about, I began to be very interested in learning how the process of marriage works in other religions besides my own. The poor in American Society are the victims of the social theory referred to as CONFLICT THEORY. The theory explains that the social STRATIFICTION SYSTEM is not functioning properly and the rich benefit more from the governmental decisions at the expense of the disadvantaged, those who rightly need the assistance. This theory is shockingly apparent in the Frontline documentary “Poor Kids”. This film follows the lives of three families’ struggling to deal with life’s most crippling situations the best way they can. The film demonstrates that being poor is not always a question of a PERSONAL PROBLEM related to the ABUSE of drugs or alcohol, but of a SOCIAL PROBLEM with unemployment, lack of job opportunities, and in this particular film, recession.…

The rhetorical object I plan on analyzing is the film The Lion King, which was released on June 15, 1994. With the film grossing $987.5 million in the box office over its release (without the DVD earnings), The Lion King is currently the third highest grossing animated film in the world. A film that is world renown, by both adults and children, the film is considered a classic film that people from generations have watched. Unlike most Disney films, The Lion King was the first Disney animated film to have its own original story. The story is inspired from parts of the Bible such as the lives of Joseph and Moses.…

In “A Desperate Act” there’s a hoard of strangers that help apprehend Antonio, the make the scene ironic. Referencing the beginning of the film, when Antonio’s bicycle is stolen there is an absence of assistance from surrounding strangers, whereas in Antonio’s act of desperation is stopped almost immediately. Additionally, the performance of the actors is imperative to the film. Drawing off the use of a child actor, Bruno appears to have a greater sense of morality than Antonio, his father. The fact that Bruno is seen as having the moral high ground over his father makes Antonio’s decision to steal a bicycle all the more desperate.…
