This can be seen as something sparked by MECHA because they would go to the Yakima Valley to recruit students. Just like the the boycotts sparked the students at the University of Washington these students had a spark on their own communities. The Yakima Hop Strikes led to some great things. There were three court cases and one of them was before the state supreme court. The outcomes because of these things were the right for union organizers to enter private property to reach workers, and no use of intimidation which included the use of firearms to threaten the workers, right to organize, and wage increase. There are more problems that women seem to face because like mentioned they are in a predominately male centered immigrant community. I believe that these women go through the most, before touching on the reading there were prior things that I learned about women is that rape goes on a lot. There was a documentary that I watched called “Rape in the Fields” and there were stories about women that were getting raped in the Yakima Valley. They mention how they go through this abuse and when they try and tell the farm owners about it they get threatened with being fired. Then most of these women actually do get fired because of this even though they did nothing wrong, they just tried to get help but they couldn’t even get that. It seemed that finding work was harder for immigrant women especially if they had kids because they had to play two roles one as a worker and another as a caregiver. The growers would see that and would rather hire men because “they provide a flexible workforce for growers because they are mobile, can work long hours when the harvest is ready, and are often willing to travel long distances”. These seems to happen in California and Oregon because there is a higher surplus of workers. Another big thing that these women went through was that they would stay at home while their husbands went to the United States to work. The thing that would happen is that the men would not
