Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

On October 8, 1871 a horrible fire struck the city of Chicago destroying everything they have and leaving the horrible memories behind. The fire roughly destroyed 3.3 square miles, and killed around 300 people and left more than 100,000 residents homeless. This disaster seemed to be started by a women and a cow being milked. The theory is that the cow must have kicked over a lantern that was in the barn and since the city was very dry from not having rain in weeks upon weeks, causing the fire to jump street to street and house to house. Some of the other theories are that somebody started the fire on purpose or accusing the women in the barn milking the cow.…

    Why Go To Chicago

There are many reasons why I would like to go to the University of Chicago, but I’d like to start off with the academic aspect of the university. While not specifically a Liberal Arts college, it seems to me that “The Core” is very akin to a Liberal Arts curriculum in the sense that it forces you to expand yourself into different disciplines. I am a big believer in learning about everything because, as I have found, everything is interconnected. With “The Core” curriculum at the University of Chicago, that message of nondiscriminatory learning is clearly emphasized and I know that I will grow as both a person and a student in that kind of an environment. Once I complete “The Core” curriculum, I will be able to focus more on my major working with world-renown faculty solving the world’s problems one step at a time.…
