The year was 1906 and the Chicago White Sox were playing the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. The Chicago White Sox ended up winning the World Series that year, but the Cubs had shown they were a capable team and retaliated in 1907 by winning the World Series. They went on to win in 1908 as well, putting them ahead as a stand-out team in the MLB. However, despite these two early World Series wins, the Cubs have not managed to emerge victorious again. Even stacked in 1962 with a team consisting of four Hall of Famers – Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Lou Brock, and Ron Santo – the Cubs could not go the stretch and even had their worst season ever that year, ending with a record of 59-103. The Chicago Cubs’ franchise, early on, looked like a solid team with bright potential; however, this was before their downfall. One example is that “He’s a bootlegger. . .” (Fitzgerald 61). If he wanted to get to the top of the social class and have a secure position, he should’ve chosen to have a legal job. He clearly looked past the law here because he wanted to be rich but the reality of it is becoming rich quickly is near impossible. It was also clear that Daisy had moved on. She did love him at one point, but she was now married to Tom Buchanan and even had a kid with Tom, who Gatsby decided to not accept either. Daisy had moved on but Gatsby was still chasing after her. In conclusion, Gatsby led himself to his own downfall. He did this because he never got over Daisy. Instead he decided he needed to get rich for her, so he participated in an illegal job. Also, he was arrogant so as to let everyone know he was in the upper class. If he had only let go of Daisy upon being separated, the story of Jay Gatsby could be a lot
