That very afternoon, Nessa and Tina were sitting and eating in the food court of Greenbriar Mall on the Southwest side of Atlanta. They had ordered Chic-Fil-A and already been shopping. Now they were waiting for their final purchase as it was in the process of being personalized. Nessa had given Tina the rundown of Sahara’s situation and brought her up-to-date on the shooting at the bank. She opted out on disclosing information about the shoot out that Quay had told her about. Her sponsor didn’t need to know everything.
Applying hand sanitizer, Tina said, “It’s good to see that you’re holding up so well.”
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Nessa remarked, “Thanks but girl I feel like a walking train wreck.”
“Well you’re coming along fine from

It is a big challenge.”
“Ya know there’s something that I just don’t get.”
“What’s that?”
“Nevermind. It don’t got nothing to do with my godson’s dying.”
“It’s okay. You can tell me about it.”
“I don’t want to offend you by my recent lack of respect for a married couple.”
“Spill the beans, Vanessa. This I have to know.”
“No offense to you because you’re a married woman. But I made love to Tim the other day.”
“What you talking ‘bout Vanessa? Isn’t he still a married man?”
“Yes he’s still married. It happened the day that Jessie died. I was feeling a certain type of way that I couldn’t exactly put my hands on. And in the pain that I was in, I desired a emotional release and Tim so happened to had been there, so I made a pass at him. And one thing led to another.”
“So y’all fucked?”
“Yes we did and the sex was better than ever.”
“Shut… yo’… mouth.”
“Seriously. He was screwing me and telling me how much he loved me and missed me like I was his wife. It was what I needed at the time. But now I feel bad, because after all of these years Judy jumped up and left him. I don’t get it.”
Judy took a sip of her homemade lemonade and said, “Vanessa I don’t know what I’m going to do with you.”

It was as if Nessa hadn’t ever been injured in the car accident, weeks earlier. She could see Nessa running after the Jeep. Then she saw the back door of the Jeep swing open and a female, with a low-cut honey blonde fade, hop out cursing and swearing at Nessa who was closing in on her.
“Bitch what you gone do?” the female shouted with her arms spread out widely. “Yeah I did it.”
Nessa was now inches away from her and then the traffic light turned green. The driver of the Jeep drove off and left the rowdy woman in the middle of the mall exit behaving erratically. Impatient drivers began honking their horns so the woman would clear the roadway. But the woman ignored them, still standing there with her arms spread apart.
Nessa by now had confiscated an empty twenty-two ounce beer bottle. And with it in her hand, she ran up and smashed it over the woman’s head yelling, “Nah biiittch you take that!”
The drivers being held up at the light, covered their faces and

Deanna, leggy, beautiful, and daring, came a long way from a rugged childhood and the time of liquor bottles aimed at her mother’s head. So said a Washington Post reporter in 2008, “Councilwoman Deanna Flin is a fresh face and a breath of fresh air in D.C. politics.” In the eyes of her colleagues (boozing old school boys with potty mouths and potbellies), she personified Hillary Clinton, the little engine that would, if she could, overturn the political status quo. “Too big for her britches,” said one, which struck Deanna as funny, but not in the ha-ha-ha way.…
