This album, like many others that The Chemical Romance had created, contains motifs of death, darkness, hopelessness, etc. which falls under the category of emo. Emo music (short for Emotional Music) is a growing subculture that is formed around emotional vulnerability, specifically the freedom of emotions (Baker & Bor, 2008). The rise of emo made the awareness of depression more prominent and is viewed as closely associated with each other.
