The chemical compound H2O, or water, is a vital substance required for sufficient life on Earth. Shockingly, in defiance of the fact that water makes up at least 71% of the Earth’s surface, as found in the air, oceans, rivers, lakes, soil moisture, and in animalistic/human beings — there is simply not enough clean water to sustain the Earth (US Geological Survey, 2016). The most compelling evidence that sparks inquisition and campaign about the allocation/production of clean water is the statistic that, “Nearly 97% of the world’s water is salty or otherwise undrinkable. Another 2% is locked in ice caps and glaciers. That leaves just 1% for all of humanity’s needs — all its agricultural, residential, manufacturing, community, and personal needs” (US Environmental Protection Agency, 2016). Considering that attaining clean water is crucial, yet challenging, it is important that community organizations are formed to facilitate the treatment of unclean water into a more efficient and useable substance to benefit humanity. Accordingly, the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant is a public organization that has committed to improving and sanitizing water for the betterment of Mother Earth, and more specifically for the constituents of the city of Atlanta and Fulton County, Georgia.
