In the beginning when Alan and The old man are introduce, The old man tells Alan of a potion that he would come back in search for later on, The “ life-cleaner”, as he calls it. The old man continues to reference back to this solution as for Alan’s need for it later in life after his purchase of the love potion. “ I look at it like this’ said the old man. Please a customer with one article, and he will come back when he needs another. Even if it is more costly” ( Collier, The Chaser, pg 164). Once Diana becomes insanely in love with Alan, later on her over obsession may become too much and may be overwhelming for Alan to handle. Hence why the old man hints back to the “life cleanser”. Once that temporary illusion of love wears off, Alan will soon come back to purchase the life cleaner. This show the feminist criticism because like many man, current day, they grow tired of women. Discarding them like objects, “cleansing” them out of their lives. There is no respect for how women are
